The September Issue es uno de mis documentales de moda preferidos. Dirigido por R.J. Cutler, esta producción muestra el making-of de la edición más importante del año de la revista VOGUE. Escribiré sobre esto más adelante, por ahora, quisiera señalar mi escena favorita de este documental estrenado en 2009 (dos años después de haber sido realizado, en 2007).

La escena en cuestión muestra a Grace Coddington (Directora Creativa de US VOGUE – y la figura que yo más admiro en toda la industria de la moda) compartiendo brevemente su trayectoria:

“Paris is so beautiful… I never dreamt to be a model or never dreamt to be a Fashion Editor, but I just loved the pages and the pictures. In my early years as a Fashion Editor I worked with Norman Parkinson, who was a really big photographer and he taught me to always keep your eyes open, never go sleep in the car, or anything like that, keep watching because whatever you see out the window or wherever it can inspire you. It is amazing. It’s sort of strange to think how old it is [talking about the Palace of Versailles]. It’s beautiful. I think I got left behind somewhere, because I’m still a romantic…but, you have to go charging ahead, you can’t stay behind.”

La escena me resulta cautivadora no tan sólo por su forma, sino también por su contenido. Se muestra a la editora de una forma muy humana, muy sensible; como ella lo dice: romántica. Me identifico mucho en ese aspecto. Personalmente me emociona estar de pie en lugares en los que la historia se ha escrito, las páginas que ahora leo en mis libros se han vivido, y en los que grandes personajes han trascendido. Creo que no hay que tener miedo a sentir…sentir eso que ciertas personas y espacios nos producen, esas sensaciones que, cuando a menos a mi, me recuerdan lo maravilloso que es poder estar vivo.
